The King Open/Cambridge Street Upper Schools and Community Complex redefined educational infrastructure, blending over a century of history with cutting-edge sustainability. Spanning 270,000 sf, this multifaceted facility accommodates various academic programs, administrative offices, and community spaces. Notably, it set a groundbreaking standard as Massachusetts’ first school to achieve zero net carbon emissions, powered entirely by renewable energy sources and featuring a massive solar array covering the roof and exterior walls. Beyond academics, the complex includes considerable amenities, including multiple playgrounds, sports facilities, a bocce court, and a 380-seat auditorium. This project epitomizes innovation, sustainability, and community engagement, enriching the educational landscape of Cambridge. The project achieved LEED Platinum certification.
